Lessard-L. explore l'esthétique générique de l'espace habitable, les
interstices entre le normatif et l'individuel et ce, dans des œuvres qui
rappellent bien souvent les formes picturales de la modernité. Elle
est obsédée par ce temps de grands idéaux et ce qui reste de ces visées
positivistes dans notre quotidien; particulièrement dans les objets
manufacturés en série. Aussi, beaucoup de ses
projets questionnent la nature de la photographie, son rôle historique,
sa soi-disant transparence et son rapport au référent; ce qui est
documenté avec sa caméra est souvent construit de toutes pièces, dans un
autre médium. Son séjour au Centre SAGAMIE lui permettra de développer
une série de photographies qui sera présentée dès mars prochain dans une
exposition intitulée "La Chambre" à la galerie les Territoires à
Montréal. Dans ce projet, les chambres noires de diverses caméras sont
moulées puis photographiées sous divers angles. L'espace physique de la
Camera Obscura est donc rendu visible ici; celui-ci tend à rétrécir
(voire disparaître) avec le développement de la technologie - de la
photographie numérique. Il s'agit finalement d'un hommage envers cet
espace qui a profondément lié l'avènement de la photographie avec la
peinture et l'histoire de l'art.
Jacinthe Lessard-L. détient une
maîtrise en Beaux Arts de l’Université Concordia. Ses œuvres ont été
exposées au Québec, à Toronto, Nancy, Göteborg, Glasgow et récemment, au
Musée de L'Élysée de Lausanne dans l'exposition reGénération2:
photographes de demain. Cette dernière fait l'objet d'une publication
chez Thames and Hudson et poursuivait en 2011 une tournée
internationale. Son travail fait partie de plusieurs collections privées
au Canada et aux État-Unis ainsi que de la collection du Cirque du
Soleil, du Musée de l'Élysée de Lausanne, du Katrine Harris Print
Collection, à Cape Town en Afrique du Sud; il est distribué par
l'Aperture Foundation.

Lessard-L's work explores the generic aesthetics of everyday life and
contemporary dwelling spaces while referring to pictorial forms from
modernity. She is obsessed with a diversity of artistic movements that
promoted great ideals and the remnants of those positivist positions in
today’s world, especially in mass-produced objects. Many of her projects
also investigate the nature of photography, its historical role, its
so-called transparency and its relationship to the referent; what is
documented with her camera is often entirely constructed in another
medium. Her stay at the Centre SAGAMIE will provide her with the
opportunity to developp a series of images that will be shown in march
at the galerie Les Territoires in Montreal. In this project, the
interiors of different cameras are molded and photographed. What is made
visible here is the physical space of the Camera Obscura that tend to
shrink (and almost disappear) with the development of technology - of
digital photography. It is a visual homage to a space that once deeply
linked photography with painting and art history.

Lessard-L. holds a Master in Fine Arts from Concordia University. Her
works has been exhibited in the province of Quebec, Toronto, Nancy,
Gothenburg, Glasgow, and recently at the Musée de L'Élysée in Lausanne
as part of the 2011 international travelling exhibition reGeneration2 :
Tomorrow's Photographers Today which is also the subject of a
publication by Thames and Hudson. Her work is included in many private
collections in Canada and the United Sates and in the collections of Le
Cirque du Soleil, Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, the Katrine Harries
Print Cabinet, South Africa; it is distributed by the Aperture
Foundation.
